During my studies at the faculty of Political Sciences in Florence, I learnt that history is very important for understanding the origins of the nature of things and that often who we are is the result of choices made in the past...
Villa Drina was the name of the house that is now Hotel David.
This 19th century mansion was turned into a hotel in about 1950, and an extension was built that could accommodate 24 rooms.
During its first twenty years, the hotel welcomed thousands of tourists and even stars from the stage who were fascinated by this strange aspect of “home”. Later, my grandmother Tina started to modify “the David” with many innovations for the period, such as the lift that at the time was a real novelty.
My grandmother then gave each of the rooms a private bathroom and started working with American and northern European tourists, who appreciated her particular style of welcoming visitors as guests and not clients.
The hotel still has the original antique furniture that, together with all its modern comforts, gives it a family atmosphere.
Today, our clients still feel part of a community and not mere guests. The services we offer have always been moments for meeting up, such as our self service bar or the evening aperitif, which are now fixtures for our guests to share their travelling experiences.
Now that my grandmother is no longer with us and my father has retired, I am carrying on the family tradition and, together with the staff, we are keeping this spirit alive.
